PROFILE
I am a full time, professional photographer, writer and teacher. In addition to running my own extensive program of workshops I also am proud to be a tour leader for Charlie Waites Light & Land photography tour company.
I love making images, mostly of the outdoors, and cameras are the the tools of my trade. I choose whichever camera and medium best suits how I want to portray my subject and, rather than developing one single style, tend to make images which reflect the location, weather, light and mood. Most of my commercial work is done digitally whereas my more personal and creative images tend to be shot on black and white film. I have a particular love for square images (hence my use of an ancient Hassleblad and other medium format cameras) and I spend a lot of time using my wooden pinhole camera.
I process my own mono film at home, scan the images and then complete my work on them in Lightroom and Photoshop.
I have been widely published in many photography magazines and write for Outdoor Photography, Amateur Photography and On Landscape. I give practical talks & workshops to camera clubs and organisations across the country and  have been interviewed several times on BBC Radio. I have exhibited at the National Theatre in London, The Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton as well as having solo exhibitions at The Image Gallery, Calverton and The Trinity Arts Centre, Gainsborough.
I list Chris Friel, Michael Kenna, Dav Thomas, Chris Tancock and Bill Schwab as among my inspirations. I have a full list of photographers and artists I admire HERE.
I get a huge amount of pleasure from teaching my photography workshops and seeing my students grow in skill and ‘eye’.
My wife, Elizabeth, has joined me in the business, helping me with all the back-room work I am so poor at. She is my constant companion and support. The third member of our team is our Cocker Spaniel, Stan, who loves being in the outdoors as much as we do.
